Just got back from an AMAZING gig in Sofia, Bulgaria.
AMAZING. A couple of real surprises in the set list, the band is on fire.
More, perhaps, later
Surprises?
What surprises?
Spoiler
no I have not been there, but reliable sources say Sometimes I feel like screaming and Sacred Land were performed and ok not such a big surprise Black Night is back…
Sometimes I feel like screaming??? ![]()
I wouldn’t have bet even a single cent on it!!!
Why, to quote Paicey “oh ye, of little faith”? ![]()
The band is known for pulling some deep cuts out of the closet and adding them to the setlist.
Here it is!
I never thought I’d hear a song from the Morse era again, and especially SIFLS!!
Oh man, it’s lovely to hear that again. Grazie mille!!!
The Irish kid gives it a nice bluesy touch. And Don can’t help showing off a little in the second verse! ![]()
Steve Morse fans will likely frown, but I like that they give it a different slant. Simon could help IG vocally during the louder parts though.
Hope i’ll get to hear Screaming in Vienna on monday, i like the way Simon feels into this song
And yes, Ian does it well, i can’t critisize this tune, love it too much
The full concert (just yesterday)

Gillan sings “Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming” well, even though it bores me
(I hope to find him in such good shape on next 17th October).
Great big concert, but sometimes I miss the distortion on the keyboards…
Simon changed the riff in Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming - and I approve!!! Considering how many times Steve changed Blackmore era tunes and made the song his own, I think it’s only appropriate Simon do the same!
No he is not Steve, can’t play or sound like Steve (who could?!), and he doesn’t need to! I only wish they hadn’t cut the ending short! Fantastic that they are bringing back Steve’s era, especially this tune!!!
Wow. SIFLS is a giant of a track and Sacred Land is the best track on splat IMO. Set list looks miles better with PS back. Now if only the junked the encore.
A few random thoughts about yesterday. The new songs work great live. Diablo is the funkiest they’ve been in a long time. Sacred Land - oh my goodness, this is a BEHEMOTH of a track live. Doug, by the way, don’t miss the Glasgow gig-I can’t reveal the surprise, but you’re going to like it.
I enjoyed the fact that there was no “encore” break, just 100 straight mins of music with nary a pause for breath.
Venue was not sold out, but pretty full, I guess a little short of its 18000 capacity, and the crowd was its usual enthusiastic self, with many young faces visible in the front rows.
Before doors open, a police dog was sniffing the inside of the hall for something, don’t know if this is common practice.
Looking very much forward to the next gigs. Don’t miss them if you can, they are GREAT!
Also
A Bit on the Side
and
Lazy Sod
sound great!!
I would like they play No One Came: really funky!!
SIFLS is built around the light strumming on the verses and the soaring main riff,Simon’s interpretation is heavy handed, Changing 2 notes in the riff makes it jarring and unpleasant.
Back to the soundcheck drawing board,Purps Maybe Somebody Stole My Guitar or Cascades instead ??
I would like to highlight BigIan’s excellent performance.
This guy never ceases to amaze me lately.
I think Simon very tastefully makes it his own. There is no attempt by him to out-Morse Steve.
I’m glad its jarring actually - that’s the same emotion I felt when Steve made the Blackmore tunes his own. As far as I’m concerned, that’s part of the process of change. What Simon did was an act of respect to Steve, and I have every confidence he’ll continue to refine his approach to the tune.
I am yet to listen to it since I would like to keep some element of surprise but I guess it’s possible Simon heard it for the first time shortly before performing it? Hopefully they will be able to get it right with time. It’s too big of a Morse highlight/moment to be messed with.
