Splat! European tour, second leg

Opening movie nicely done overall but please add RB and JL where they belong:

This thought crossed my mind:

If Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming had been included on an album released after Purpendicular, and if, for example, Haunted had taken its place instead, perhaps the “historical” perception of the song among fans (myself included) and the band would be different.

Huh, SIFLS’ perception or Haunted’s? You speak in riddles, Senator!

the perception of SIFL!

but consequently also of Haunted (or Don’t Make Me Happy or Clearly Quite Absurd) had it been included on Purpendicular.

SIFL sounds like a venereal disease - ouch!

SIFLS even more so

But what percrption? It is a great track on a great album. And I’m always happy to hear it live.

I love it that DP tour the more remote regions in the Balkans too.

Detailed review will be up later
all i can say is : it was fantastic, with Big Ian’s words " thank you, you are amazing"

anticipation-minions

Well now
the setlist was the same like the night before, starting with Highway Star and yes, Roger got the timing right
Big Ian was a bit down in the Mix for the first two songs but, what a relief, his voice was there right from the beginning
he managed the screaming chorus of Into the Fire really well. Arrogant Boy was executed accurate and sharp, heading straight to Simon’s guitar solo which in fact did surprise me as it startet with a celtic and rather dark arpeggio progression only to lead into an almost Morse- stylish cascade of fret board Exploration. Diablo entertained with Ian getting out his harp and fresh bits of jamming. Lazy offered a fresh attitude, also a bit higher pace than the decades before. Back to the newer songs, Ian delivered Lazy Sod in his beautiful baritone, just to relax in between the more demanding tracks that followed. One of the highlights for me was SIFLS, although a bit short it had all the Emotion packen in, and yes Ian did even the chorus Part well. Heading forward to Don’s solo spot we were treated to the reappearance of violinist Lydia Baich who had played with Purple before, back in 2016 and 2019 as far as i remember- first some classical snippets before they delivered a rather heavy viennese waltz, Miss Baich stayed on stage for the following Perfect Strangers which again was well delivered by Ian. Right on came the usual suspects, Space and SOTW, both imo a bit heavier executed by Simon than in the last decades. The encore trias was delivered in a bit playful way with lots of jammming by all instrumentalists. The crowd was happy, so was i. Highlights for me were Big Ians vocal performance, for sure no autotuning as his modulations were outstanding as was the Power he still has got in his lungs. And Simon: he is an Amalgam of all good abilities that Blackers and Morse had plus the bluesy rawnwess of Rory Gallagher minus the dark sonic aura of RB. He shines as the friendly youngster that he is, and yes, his freshness does add lots of energy to the band
afterwards i do hope there will be one more round, like i did after the last 2 or 3 shows

I had a thought about why Simon may have changed the melody in Sometimes, as a guitar player:

PRS guitars are modelled after Gibsons with a shorter number of frets.

I note that he plays the riff on the lower end of the neck just fine - Steve hit some fairly high notes when he played the riff up the octave.

Is it possible Simon just doesn’t have enough frets to play the riff properly and had to modify it?

If the band decided to put the song back in spontaneously, I wonder if Simon didn’t have time to get a guitar with more frets on short notice, or perhaps doesn’t wish to switch guitars for one song?

There could be practical reasons for the change nobody has considered

Now that was a lovely review from our former Ostmark

Danke schön! The violin on Perfect Strangers is a nice touch.

I enjoyed the McBride take on SIFLS and the good thing was that the song didn’t drag on too long, like on the studio album. I always thought that repeated melody went on too long. Over stayed it’s welcome is the saying isn’t it? Cheers.

Look at him drumming up support for his minority views!

It was a bit long, yes. :grimacing:

It bores me

I don’t feel like writing another 20 characters (what should I suppose to write?)

Yes. Miss Lydia is a cool cat and a gifted musician too
as Ian said: more than a nice dress

Why, did HE wear one again?

No, haha, Miss Baich wore a nice little black dress with glitter application showing her naled knees
and nothing more

Nailed knees you say? Ouch! Probably from a skiing :skier: accident, that happens a lot in Austria.
