But then again, since the very beginning John talked about his “Steve’s and Al’s” (Morse, Vai, Holdsworth, Lifeson, etc) influences molding his own style.

Yes, they found a hardcore and loyal audience, and that is great.
I saw them just the once, on their first Mangini tour, the Buenos Aires show at Luna Park Arena which was filmed and recorded for CD/DVD.
They were great, in fact, much better than what the released end product suggests.

The Armenian kid was the only guy in DT who could play music people could move their butts to. And the unknown guitarist in his vid is surrounded by chicks whereas the only known pictures of John Petrucci with wimmen are those of him as a child with his mother …
That alone makes the music more relevant than all of DT!
