Start of the Splat tour last night (spoiler alert)

But the solos eat up considerable time in a set that is already on the short side. Individual solo spots are a thing of the past and don’t add much to the shows. Better then to let Don and Simon duel it out in Speed King or BN, as they already do. That part of the show is a lot more exciting than Don being served red wine by a butler, as if it was a Broadway play.

Daniel, better serve him wine than make him discuss the Punic wars…:squinting_face_with_tongue:that would be a total disaster in the show:face_with_hand_over_mouth::rofl:

The solos add a very important thing to the show - recovery time for Gillan.

Your set would be amazing… for one, maybe two nights. But Gillan wouldn’t last an 80-date tour doing it.

Martin, relax!
it’s a short setlist because they’re sharing the tour with two other bands, when the fall tour starts you’ll see that other songs will return to the setlist!

on Smoke’s tail with Ritchie they could have even given Don another glass of wine, so he wouldn’t have to play at full volume above!!!

Flavio, I don’t drink alco anymore but I would raise a glass to your health - in hope that your predictions about mend and expanded setlist are right! And yes, give him wine, to make him more… In line.:squinting_face_with_tongue:

Once he was a lovely lad, compliant and tame…

Songs like ITF are not exactly a walk in the park for him either, yet they do them. Simon is able to shine in his own way on bluesier songs, so it would be interesting to see what they could do with Wasted Sunsets eg (a song in the top 30 :).

They’ve done Wasted Sunsets though, and moved on. They play what they are comfortable to play, and no one will change their mind. I learned that lesson in the 90s.

WABMC is probably my favourite song, but I would love for it to be replaced with a recent slow number. But it’s not up to me so I’ve given up being bothered about it.

I’m about to adopt the same approach as you Doug, part of it is why November will be my last show.

And yet another random thought - this time concerning ITF and HLM. As we know, both are In Rock tracks, therefore represent the earliest MkII material. But also, this is the point where three of the band got together. This is the point that Purple began to make the big time. There must be an awful lot of memories and emotions represented by those songs. CiT, Bloodsucker and probably Speed King are too much for IG now. Living Wreck is a possibility, and the band have said several time Flight of the Rat just doesn’t work in rehearsals (plus may also be beyond IG).

did they do Wasted Sunset on this tour?..did I miss it?

Living Wreck would be a nice surprise for everyone, but I think there’s a close to zero chance they’d want to play it.

No - both were a few years ago. OK- more than a few…

WS was 2009 and Living Wreck 2006, but I think was played since but can’t remember

The EU tour two weeks away. It’s now or never. Bad Attitude!

Dream on…the same with Sometimes i feel like screaming…we will get what we get

SIFLS was surprisingly last played in 2019 and sounded very good.

I think it is still within Ian’s vocal range but they won’t play it as it is one of Steve’s signature songs

I don’t think that’s the (principal) issue. It’s the eternal quest for a varied setlist that’ll fit within the time on stage, plus other constraints.

Rush and Journey are both doing 2h40m shows on their current tours. Hopefully DP can do 1h45m at least.

Rush have a young drummer, Journey have a young singer, the two most pivotal elements in a band for the concert’s stamina and duration.
