Deep Purple live CD album list: The Morse Era

Since in the wake of Splat, my newfound love for Deep Purple and my attendance at THS I felt the desire to have all the band’s official releases again, I decided to fill the gap on the Live MK VII & MKIII chapter (I only owned Live Olympia, Total Abandon and the concert at the Royal Albert Hall), I proceeded with the purchases and cataloguing of the material.
This is for CD versions only, I’ll make another list for DVD & Blu-ray versions.

Surely something similar can be found on the THS pages, but in addition to the release list, I also made a chronological list with highlighted:
the live songs from the MKVII & MKVIII albums
the MKII songs “played least” live

Of the Edel reissues for the 2001 “The Soundboard Series” dates, only the Melbourne 2001 reissue is missing.
The original edition is unobtainable, making the “Soundboard series” box set it is included in the only reason it can be considered at the considerable prices it is sold for.
(Of course, a collector’s fanatic would buy it regardless, and probably already owns it and holds onto it.)

*** As many of you may know, the Bananas tour has no official release covers. I found a bootleg from a show filmed on Swiss TV, it’s called Baselnanas (unavailable) and it should be the one with the best audio.
There are also other bootlegs from the Bananas tour, I don’t know the audio quality, but they are also unobtainable

As you can see, considering all these CDs, there is a lot of redundancy in the songs, so some purchases may be avoidable, except for collector fans.

I personally just bought the special editions of Infinite and Rapture (of which I now have 3 copies also considering the remaster) and for now I can do without the Japanese edition of Whoosh and the Melbourne Soundboard series which I hope Edel will reprint like the other dates of the Box set.
a live performance of the Bananas tour is what I’d like to have, but they’re nowhere to be found.

Note: I didn’t include No One Came in this list of rare MKII songs because it’s featured in almost every tour from '99 to 2014 and also on these CDs, and maybe it could have been on the setlist even more than Woman From Tokyo, Speed King, Lazy and other super classics!

Just off the top of my head, “Live Encounters” and “Live at the Rotterdam Ahoy” are missing.

The Soundboard Series includes both Tokyo Concerto shows, the re-issue is a compilation.

Also, the original Bootleg Box included Purple Sunshine (which is not the full show) and Osaka 2000.

You’re right, I hadn’t counted on Live Encounters, I didn’t remember that the CD was also included on the DVD…This DVD+CD version is easy to find, and it’s the one I already owned.

There is also a CD-only version of Live Encounters which is quite rare and sold for several dozen Euros.

even rarer and more expensive is the CD Live At The Rotterdam Ahoy!
About this concert, it must be said that it is related to the tour with the Orchestra, already documented by the RAH and the live in Tokyo. Those who have it can hold on to it, while those who don’t have it can do without it.

yes, there were two Tokyo dates in the box set.

while on discogs I have not found any references to other CDs with the dates you mention, in addition to the 6 CDs included

This one - I think it was the first Thames/Thompson releases. Or one of them. It was a box set of popular bootlegs.

This is one of the few bootlegs I bought when I was young!..I keep it as a relic and I remembered that they were only CDs relating to concerts of the MKII bis!!

Actually, compared to the more official releases, the Osaka CD is decent, but the Florida one is awful.

but it is historically interesting because it was the third concert ever with Morse and you can feel that the band was not yet well-matched, even the performance was problematica.
Osaka’s setlist is very nice with several pieces from Abandon.

Purple Sunrise was an odd choice. It is actually the 5th Morse show, but is incomplete as it misses out a couple of songs, including Soon Forgotten. Admittedly the,band kinda lost the song that night, which is a shame as they nailed it in the previous Kissiminee show.

I should add, the original bootleg CD is also missing these tracks, it wasn’t as some suggested at the time, cut at the band’s request. Other bootlegs have the full show from a different source. The original boot also had the South African radio show acoustic set. That did have to be cut from the “official” release for copyright reasons (Thames would have had to license it which was against the whole point of the set).

Made in Japan 2000 is an odd one - the other shows were all well-known titles, several having been pressed on vinyl. Osaka was unknown, and very good quality. Rumour at the time was it was a soundboard recording put in to attract completists who had the original boots :wink:

Fla. My list of videos is more accurately a list of professionally recorded gigs so it is de facto a list of potential additional live sets. Mostly easily found boots.

Yes, I saw your exhaustive list!
but I wanted to list only the releases on CD from the official labels,
I also included Thames which you could say were pretty much official at the time,
and I included that Bananas tour bootleg just because there is nothing official about it.
