I just got the message… Devastated and heartbroken.
Those who knew him from the live circuit know that he was an outstanding live performer, in vein of Van Morrison and Bob Dylan, but also leaning towards alt rock and stretching between singer-songwriter and jam band aesthetic mixed with Irish and Celtic influences. I’ve seen him 7 times live between 2013-24 and the concerts were electric and eclectic with the range of the music involved, alas always driven by an amazing energy and charisma. Often stretching to 3 hours of play, when the audience got involved and the atmosphere got electric… Unforgettable nights. These were barely rock concerts music wise, but in terms of the musicianship and the execution on stage - many rock stage acts would like to have such a kicking drive like Glen had, so he was in a way more rock-and-roll than many “so called” rockers. Whether he was alone on stage with his voice and acoustic guitar, or full band, he knew how to go ALL THE WAY from silence to deafening climax, when required.
This is one of the most beautiful moments in all music I know. And I know plenty, don’t I - like we all do… Now I feel blessed to have been following him since 2008 and being granted the gift of living the talent of the man.
The 1st time I saw him live, he played in a synagogue in Wroclaw… The concert lasted for 2,5 hours and then for 1 hour they played acoustic and unplugged loads of encores - many Irish folk and pub songs, walking between people in the audience like buskers. I was completely hooked. It was a celebration of a communion, togetherness… And his voice and charisma… It was truly something else. Since then, his every return to Poland was a bliss and blast. In 2022 in Warsaw he joined in nearby musical theatre the cast of Polish actors who staged the local version of “Once”. In return on the next day they came down to join him and the band on encores of his sold out gig in Palladium. So many magical memories…
I love him so much. He was one of these unique guys totally epitomising why we fall for the music and the players… Loved playing live and always made most of it, gave it his all.
