The other day I was listening to Sunshine Lady sung by David Coverdale. A great track that went under the radar of many people I guess. So I thought we might list some gems here we think people need to hear:
Sunshine Lady - David Coverdale / Tony Franklin
Video killed the Radio Star - Glenn Hughes / Geoff Downes
Sailing Ships - David Coverdale / Vandenberg’s Moonkings
To cry you a Song - Glenn Hughes / Jethro Tull tribute
Göttliche Devise - Ritchie Blackmore / Des Geyers Schwarzer Haufen
Oh, this is right up my alley and I could do this a whole week long, just a few examples:
Roger tastefully on bass:
Jon psyching out …
Little Ian with an obscure bassist …
A Sunderlander with a couple of boys from Birmingham and a Yank from Norfolk, Virginia …
Tommy lending his talents very audibly (at 04:27) to a bunch of Canucks …
Glenn singing a chorus or two for famed rap duo Dan & Tom in Dragnet …
Ken Hensley or some other guy from Deep Purple a-wutherin’ …
Nick helping out his son Richard with the latter’s trippy ambient music …
Finally, as the festive season is closing in unaufhaltsam: Jon succumbing once again to the charms of a Norwegian blonde (no, not ABBA-Frida) with Chilean (no, not German) roots, given Norway’s notoriously low level of Durchdringung with Christianity …
In 1985, when Whitesnake performed at the first Rock in Rio, Coverdale recorded vocals over a base played by cheesy band Roupa Nova for a radio ad for cigarette brand Hollywood (my father used to smoke those).
Coverdale says in Portuguese “I am Whitesnake’s David Coverdale, and this is the hit” before singing and at the end he belts the brand’s slogan: “O sucesso” (the hit).
The lyrics are mostly gibberish, probably ad-libbed at the spot.
How could I have forgotten this here! Roger on Strawbs main man Dave Cousins’ (himself an unabashed DP fan) solo debut from 1972 - with Rick Wakeman, Miller Anderson and Jon Hiseman also featured!
Yeah,
but Uwe, if besides making a post with 10 completely different video links, and writing cryptic sentences, You could enlighten us by explaining Lord’s collaboration with Norwegian pop singer Maria Arredondo on the album “Min Jul”, that might be better, don’t you think?
You don’t strike me as a lawyer when I read such a disorganized post!
In any case, it is amazing how many things, both big and small, the Maestro accomplished around the world after leaving Purple during the final phase of his career!
I imagine he did this guest spot with Maria Arredondo more out of passion and for the pleasure of it than for the money.
Wow, Paicey made a video specifically to explain this collaboration and respond to the criticism in an amazing way!
I was surprised when he said he doesn’t know how to play reggae music properly.
I think that even if Paicey played reggae without understanding it, he’d still play it well to our ears!
