Because of heavily syncopated rhythm perhaps? Although it reminds me of more of ska/reggae rather than Latin.
Don has a penchant for music that is slightly ghostly-unsettling. Not quite as stark as Colin Towns, but it’s there.
Jon’s classical inclinations were more pastoral - there is an Edward Elgar lurking in every Brit. 
That difference between the two is in my ears also the reason why Don’s organ playing doesn’t emit Jon’s warmth.

Unfortunately, I only have this record. The Golden Grass are a trio from Brooklyn; I saw them perform once here in Milan at a small dive bar I love and frequent often. It was before COVID. They really remind me of Grand Funk—though some say the Grateful Dead… It was a wonderful concert; I hope they’re doing well

Larkin Poe is a duet of sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell. Rebecca sings lead and plays rhythm, Megan plays lead/lap/steel/slide and sings harmonies. Their music is usually classified as Roots/Americana. There’s often a rhythm section present, but they are just hired hands. Lots of good old-fashioned grit in here. Peroxide endorsements not included.

PS. After hearing the colossal amount of headroom in your recordings, I finally understand your Splat! mixing reservations 
My first record has a ton of headroom, my second not so much and that’s when I realized the modern, more squashed and compressed sound was not for me - it was an experiment, I learned alot about myself as an artist and what I like and don’t like.
My idea of a great sounding record is something akin to Pink Floyd where everything just breathes (pun intended), there’s space for every instrument and lots of room for detail to come out and be noticed. It makes no sense to me to do all this work on arranging and composing, only to have all that fine detail work be squashed and obscured by an unnecessary amount of compression.
One day I’d love to make a hard rock or metal record that is absolutely loud, kick ass, in your face but still has all that space, breathing room, tons of headroom and detail work. I dunno if the best of both worlds can be achieved, but I’d sure as hell like to try!

Another band I love to listen is MAZZY STAR from Santa Monica.
Now it is disbanded. I discovered it few years ago and his music is very relaxing. A mixture of blues, slowcore, pop and alternarive rock.
I have all them cd.

Randall Bramblett who sang/wrote with Roger Glover on his Snapshot album (which I really like) released an album around 2 years ago, which is really cool if you want to take a break from the Harder stuff. Cool lyrics, cool songs - excellent drummer and the others play really good as well.
Not a Deadhead myself, but if you are into that kind of laid back music you may want to check this very talented young troubadour, Cass McCombs.
He’s from California, Laurel Canyon-meets-The-Dead kinda vibe…
I bumped into his music in the most unlikely way, by a Universal Audio (legendary audio company) session included on their recording software LUNA.
