Initially here, there was no issue doing this, the YouTube vid would even pop up in the preview. But then something changed and all I get is links while other people’s posted vids still pop up - what is it that they do to embed their vids and not just show the link like here:
Test:
Your link, as is, does not render.
However, if I paste your link on Safari, it shows the YouTube video with a slightly altered link:
And when I paste that altered link here, it renders fine (see below)
Hope that helps!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?=gidrNn7QIQA
Thanks, but nope, as you see it doesn’t work, not with me. I mean the link as such of course works, but it doesn’t embed. I see that in Karin’s posts too, it affects us both.
Test 2:
Link obtained by clicking “Share” on YouTube screen (does not render)
https://youtu.be/DBlS7sh9QiA?si=1dM75BZiGx13ERwP
Exact same video, but link obtained copying from the URL bar on Safari navigator (it does render)
Try again!
Too complex for me! Digital non-native. I use Safari too and have no idea how to copy an “url” (does it bite?) from a YT vid. If embedding doesn’t work easy, then it is not that huge an issue (it does work in other fora I visit, but they are not this fancy-pants, over-engineered discourse thing we have here which for the life of me I still find overly complex and convoluted).

Now I visited via Chrome and the same thing as before happens, no embedding.
Got it.
Then what you probably need is a small “trust” bump by admin @nick , that is, if you can convince him

That’s another thing I detest here, I hate those cajoling messages I get. I don’t give a flying flamingo whether a forum software deems me more or less trustworthy and elevates me in status or not.
What a bunch of bullshit:
“Member

Am I a seven-year-old girl with curls who competes for the most entries in her poetry book?
BTW, that Woman from Tokyo version is awful, GILLAN - great with their own material - managed to take all of the grandeur out of the song, rather turning it into some kind of a rehearsal number of a fledgling Punk outfit. Even Blackmore can’t save it.
Interesting, that the Purple covers of Rainbow, GILLAN and Whitesnake never really sounded all that great. And a testament that even ex-members of DP find it difficult to recreate the group sound of their former band. I really only like the SOTW and CiT versions of IGB because they really gave them a radical makeover and put some thought into what they did.
Yes, Punk Purple!
Exactly what I thought!
I think Ian was trying hard to regain his “rock” credentials after IGB failed to give Zawinul and Corea a run for their money.
Interestingly, according to some versions, around '79 there was even the possibility of Ritchie, Roger and Ian teaming up on a “new Purple” while the others were fortressing in Whitesnake.
If true, boggles the mind!!!
Cheers, J.-
No, it should work for any trust level above zero (aka absolute n00b).
That being said, the web today it is what it is — a huge mess of enshittification where hordes of bots hunt lonely humans for fun and profit. What works here and now may not work elsewhere or tomorrow. Case in point: that YT video Uwe is so upset about doesn’t even exist. Or so YouTube tells me.

Naturally, there’s no preview and no embedding.
If you gonna act as a petulant child, you gonna be treated like one ![]()
You probably meant “arrogant boy” ![]()
How you are all ganging up on me! ![]()
But still no explanation why the embedding works neither with me nor Karin.
Weirdly the link that doesn’t work with you works with me when I click on it, Nick!
On the one hand, it is weird, on the other, this unfortunately became the norm once corporations took over the internet. Everything is decided upon how much money they’ll be able to make from you.
So, basically, in order for embedding to work, the video should be available to (a) yourself, (b) to the server that runs the forum, and (c) to the people who visit the forum. If any of these conditions – that are outside of you control – are not satisfied, that’s it.
Basically, if nothing happens when you paste the URL and click on Load preview icon, you’re out of luck.
Again,
Test Case
From Karin’s posted links, Queensrÿche’s [beautiful] “Silent Lucidity”…
- The abbreviated link YouTube itself offers for sharing the video, won’t render here.
- The full link (the one you see at the browser’s navigation bar) will render here.
Proof of Concept

IRMC.
Cheers, J.-
By the way,
I also don’t see videos that I embed…
------EDIT--------
I discovered how to succeed on my smartphone!
- copy the YouTube link into the browser
- select “desktop site” view in browser view
- copy the new link
- LEAVE BLANK SPACES ABOVE AND BELOW THE COPIED LINK, to allow the video to appear.
basically a hassle!
I hear you! And I stand by you ![]()
