My faves are: The Lunatic, Sacred Land, Splat! and Only Horse in Town
My setlist:
Highway Star, Bit on the side, Sacred Land, Wrong Man, Guit solo/ Arrogant Boy, Lazy Sod, The Lunatic, Lazy, Sometimes I Feel like screaming., Diablo, Battle Rages On. Key solo, Horse in Town, Scribbling Gibrish, ST, Splat Smoke, Guinesses, Hush, Black Night
I could never see DP these days performing Ted the Mechanic or Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming. Those two songs and a few others particularly from Purpendicular, are so indicative of Steve Morse and his influence on DP moving forward. Not for anyone to cover in my book. Best left where they stand and they do stand on higher ground. Cheers.
I think - Arrogant boy, The Rider, The Only Horse In Town (a modern Knocking At Your Backdoor to me at least). I also think that Sacred Land and Jessicas’ Bra would make great live tracks.
I don’t know Karin so I don’t know her preferences unfortunately. I guess my only hope here is that she’ll go by her own taste. If it somehow aligns with my choices for what new songs might be played live, I have only nice things to say!
I do agree with Julio, drop the In Rock tracks. As much as I love that album/tracks, it’s time to replace them in the set, since they’re now a bit too much for our beloved singer.
I love many of the newer tracks that will never get a live outing, or maybe got played but dropped, which is a shame in my opinion. Mentioned here in no particular order, just songs I think would work live given a chance, as was the topic recently,
A simple Song (fantastic song)
Weirdistan (love this song, and title )
The Long Way Round
Throw My Bones
One Night In Vegas
Nothing At All (beautiful song, why dropped?
Out Of Hand (just brilliant)
I’d like to add many other tracks of course, just off the top of my head which “newer” tracks I think would catch an eye for someone not a fan as we are…
I haven’t been in prison yet, but keep this up and I might
Let me tell you this: I take life as it comes and that includes songs at the concert of the year (for little old me…)
If I can sing along to some of them I’m happy, but even more important: Ian’s voice has to be taken excellent care of. And I don’t mind him not singing all my favourites, because he needs to be in shape singing all these concerts. And oh boy there are many concerts and the man turns 81 in 10 days
MK I am a very nice person, don’t you listen to Uwe at all!
Half of what he says about me is not true, and the other half can not be believed either…
Besides that I’m famous for my coffee! And I have loved Purple all my life
Always feel free to ask me about all the dirty secrets about Uwe because I have a lot, been in these holy halls of everything Purple a couple of years I have endured and suffered a lot
Karin, good to know you’re a nice person! Always easier to deal with nice people.
I’ve been reading a lot of comments on The Highway Star for many years, haven’t interacted a lot since mostly everything is covered by others. So I have at least a general idea of who’s who here. Let’s leave it at that!
