Which songs from SPLAT! should be played live?

Until now theyve played 5 already. Arrogant Boy, Diablo and Guinnesis have been played at every show. At the last European shows they playf Only Horse In Town after Dons keyboard solo. And they did scribblin gibrish from the Montreux gig and the first 4? U.S

shows.

Considering we are continuing to get a greatest hits set, this is my pipe dream wish for a set that’ll never happen:

Silver Tongue

Wrong Man

Rapture of the Deep

Bananas

The Rider

Guilt Trippin

Soon Forgotten

Seventh Heaven

Bleeding Obvious

Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming

My New Movie

Pictures of Home

Perfect Strangers

Smoke on the Water

Encore:

Loosen My Strings

Cascades I’m Not Your Lover

Highway Star

Exactly a setlist for me, Lots of Purpendicular, Bananas and Abandon songs, reminds me of gigs in the early 2000s

They were at their best then and had the best setlists then, I feel. 1996-2002 was peak Purple and an absolutely magical time for the band and the fans - I don’t think some fans realize how good they had it back then.

Pretty much - and the 10-15 minute long Speed King was my personal highlight of many shows.

I would push the time-period a little later. Both Bananas and Rapture had 6 or 7 songs played live, and quite a few older tracks played in 96-02 did come back in for a tour

That’s completely fair - I somehow forgot I saw them on both the Rapture and Bananas tours, and yes, that 15 min Speed King was AMAZING!

Especially when Jon Lord was still on board, the duelling with Steve during Speed King was magnificient

Indeed, that was the high point of the show I saw in 1997, and to me, the only moment where they truly reached “Purple greatness”, at least that day.

(So I wrote on my THS review)

I never cared much for Speed King, extended or not. A songwriting-wise minimalist Little Richard pastiche.

Nazareth improved greatly on it a few years later.

Beating of Wings is my favourite from this album, so …

Me too (not the only one but surely on high point)

It is a fine tune indeed but they won’t do it on stage, i think it’s quite straining for Ian’s voice

That’s true - I was thinking in an ideal world.

Really? I thought it was a quiet track for him…

Bissel arg komprimiert, oder?

Not much room to breathe for the good ole woven sounds of Keith and Ron.

Guess Jagger chose the producer in his never ending desire to stay relevant and up to date at any cost.

Definitely, it’s a modern day Andrew Watt production after all.

I could have done without that. But it seems to be better than Hackney Diamonds that may be the worst Stones album to date for me. I can’t help it - I need a little mire room between the many sounds and a bit of dynamics, not just everything louder than everything else at the same time.

BTW: the Black & Blue remix was an interesting listen to these ears.

It’s an underrated album too! I hated it when it came out (Black & Blue), today I think it 's one of their strongest (a relative term with Stones albums I know!). Yeah, the remix was revelatory.

The 3 best songs of the album, Splat!, Guilt Trippin and The Rider. These three are above the rest.
