Oh no, please not AI
Personally, I find the cover pic (however it was created) hilarious. The music itself is obviously a far cry from the original, but it does capture the essence of the '50s. And (being a keyboard player) I find the keyboard solos reasonably entertaining. I also find it interesting that Roger gets the prime location and a gold jacket on the cover pick. Nice to see a bass player get some recognition!
That is good fun and well played, thanx
Wow what characters.!
Well done! ![]()
Puhdys from GDR
Maybe not epic, but one of my first Singles I bought and a nice memory (A side was a cover version of Hell Raiser from Sweet)
Is this intended to be comedic or serious or both? I can’t tell, but I love it just the same!
I think, both. Here’s some context as provided by our Japanese correspondent at the time:
This is our very own Smoke on the Water retitled “Oedo No Hikeshi” (Firemen of Edo; Edo is the old name of Tokyo), performed on a Japanese show called “Tokiwazubushi Is Rock”. Tokiwazubushi is a school of Joruri, and developed alongside Kabuki theatre, which it was played to accompany. The concert was part of TV Asahi’s weekly series “Daimei No Nai Ongakukai” (Concert Without a Title).
Perfect Strangers acoustic live performance by Timo Kotipelto of Stratovarius
For the series: “Auto-Tune, the great stranger: It’s not perfect, but I like it because it’s real..”
The vocals are overcooked, but I like the Zeppelinesque strummy guitar.
Yesterday, this cover from about 30 years ago suddenly came back to mind.
Oh my, if we now feature the muzak of Gregorian here, then Sandra who lent her voice uncredited to early Enigma/Gregorian releases can’t be far behind!
A cover of Highway Star, Siberian style:
About the artist:
Bugotak plays Siberian music in a traditional folk basis, but their musical references are so diverse to be classified by genre (let’s call it Siberian Contemporary music). They even dare to cover rock classics, in their traditional Siberian instruments. The main idea of Bugotak’s art is that only those traditions come alive, which develop itselves; stark traditions are subject to nobody. Therefore, the project declares itself to play in any style, keeping native Siberian spirit. Lovers of ‘pure folk’ should stay away, to avoid stagnation of native folk’s culture.
Bugotak is an ethnic project found in 2004 in Novosibirsk, Russia, by Sayan Andriyanov, a multi-instrument player and throat singing performer.
Am I allowed to post my own cover? Don’t know if it would qualify as epic, but it certainly is heartfelt. If shameless self promotion is taking things a step far, please do let me know and I shall abstain!
It depends:
Can you positively confirm you have never been in Deep Purple?
(Sorry for asking but there has been, like, a lot of people there over the years…)
If you haven’t, then you are free to post your versions ![]()
I can confidently say I’ve never been in Deep Purple - so, here’s my version of KAYBD, adapted for Double Slide Guitar in Open E tuning.
Solos are improvised, did my best to capture Ritchie’s sloppy yet wild abandon from the original while making it my own. Enjoy!
Woooow very good Mike!!!
Excellent playing
Thanks for sharing!

Very good vocals too, is it you or another singer? Could he emotionally connect with the deeply introspective lyrics?
Best regards,J ![]()
Everything else is a backing track that I played guitar to - I can’t sing in Ian’s prime range even if I wanted to at this juncture!
Thanks for sharing, Mike
Very good your technique and feel! ![]()
